Community Engagement With Art.
Over the last decade, Contemporary Art has become an increasingly prominent element in New Orleans’ cultural landscape, from the development of new arts districts to the growing success of Prospect, the country’s only international art biennial. Even so, there are still many communities which have remained somewhat isolated from this new and vital trend in the city. Sculpture Walk is an innovative project built on the sustainable benefits of connection through public art and public transportation. Citizens and visitors will be connected to world class public art, to each other and to economic opportunity. The health of the community will also be supported through the use of an existing biking and walking path along the levee and a custom-designed education program. By integrating public art and public transit from ferries to pedestrians to bikes, Sculpture Walk promotes art in a purely egalitarian way.
